Nell

Nell (Donnelly)

1947 - 1962
What a lovely idea and I am assuming it is never too late to make a memory especially since last year I found a photo of "our" childhood dog.

Nell was actually my grandmother's dog and we couldn't wait to visit our Nanna to be able to make a huge fuss of Nell. We were not allowed a dog of our own so she was our surrogate and we loved her to bits.

For my grandmother, Nell became her very important companion after first my grandfather had died then the following year my mother and her brother both left home and got married within 6 weeks of each other, so it is easy to see why Nell was spoiled rotten. As children, we always pretended she was our dog and as she was already a very old lady I suppose she had a lot to put up with when we were "playing" with her. She was one of those dogs who just lay there and lapped up all the attention, allowing us to smother her with love.

She lived a long and very happy life and more than 60 years later my siblings and I still talk about Nell.
